IT Dept. has had a series of tech requests that we've been working through at both Twality and Templeton this fall. The original reported problem was - while working wirelessly on laptops, the closest network printer becomes unavailable to print to and reports that it's "offline" on the Mac (only in a particular area of the school). In our attempts to resolve this problem, we have tried a variety of things. In addition, we also recently installed the new Title IID classroom printers into the mix. I'd like to get an update on the status of the problem.
Could you please help us work towards a solution by answering the following questions :
1. Are you still experiencing (similar) printing problems?
2. If so, please describe the trouble you are having (how often, time of day, staff or student computer)
3. If so, have you tried printing to a different printer (like in the library or office)…what was the result?
4. If so, have you tried printing to the printer using a network cable and had the same/similar problem?
Thank you.
…Susan
I am now having these issues. My teacher computer seems to be the only one affected, and it's particularly bad at the end of the day. I wasn't really having a problem until I started using my new printer. I'm having the same problem when I change printers, but I have yet to try the cord! Hope this is helpful. Thanks for looking into this! Jennifer

Hi Susan,
ReplyDelete1) Yes
2) Several random times of day and only from the teacher computer
3) Yes...Every printer gives the same message until you knock the airport offline
4) No...seems to be kind of a lousy trade off to get a wireless projector that is spacially close in exchange for a tether to a printer that is far away?
Further, do we not find it highly suspect that the only two buildings having troubles are the two that have Tech IId participants? Something seems off with the new wireless bundle.
In addition to an "offline" message, it was often saying that the printer software could not be found...for any printer in the building.

Just checking... has everyone with this issue run Apple Software updates
which most recently included an HP Printer update. If not they should just
to rule that out.

Are you still experiencing (similar) printing problems? Yes.
ReplyDeleteIf so, please describe the trouble you are having (how often, time of day, staff or student computer). Maybe once or twice a day. Doesn’t seem to be at a particular time– it’s pretty random. I tried to keep track, but it has been morning, afternoon, middle of the day...it has happened on both staff and student computers.
If so, have you tried printing to a different printer (like in the library or office)…what was the result? Yes. I was able to print, but I only tried this one time.
4. If so, have you tried printing to the printer using a network cable and had the same/similar problem? I haven’t tried that.

Yep– I had this problem once with one of the Airs. Thanks for helping us out.

Hi Danielle,
I just wanted to check... Emily has reported that her student laptops are
not having the printing troubles we've been discussing. Just for clarity,
you HAVE had this very problem with your student laptops? One difference
is that you have MacBook Airs and Emily has MacBooks....
Thank you.
